Did you ever wish your teachers would hold class time outside in the playground instead of inside in front of the blackboard? This could be a reality for some Windsor elementary students.
Just in time for the nice weather, Windsor’s St. Gabriel Catholic School is in the running to win a $20,000 grant to transform its concrete playground into a green learning space.
The elementary school is one of ten finalists in the Majesta Trees of Knowledge contest, but to win, the school needs to collect as many votes from the public as possible.
If you want to support the school, visit the Trees of Knowledge page. Canadians can submit votes daily. Voting starts Monday, March 18 and runs until Friday, April 26. Voters are eligible for a $10,000 prize, too.
Paper products company Majesta launched the Trees of Knowledge competition in 2011 in partnership with the non-profit tree-planting organization TreeCanada and the nature education organization Focus on Forests. Each year, one school in Canada is funded for a customized outdoor classroom so students can get all the benefits of being outdoors and learning at the same time.
