Suspicious motorist cleared by police

A motorist, whose suspicious behaviour prompted a west-end school to issue a warning letter to parents earlier this week, was doing legitimate business in the area, police have concluded.

St. John Catholic elementary school on Grove Avenue wrote to parents Tuesday about a car approaching children in the area.

The special victims unit of Windsor police investigated. The suspect vehicle was identified, the driver was brought in for an interview, and investigators determined he was in the area doing business related to cable repair, said police spokesman Sgt. Matthew D’Asti. Investigators confirmed with the man’s employer that he was supposed to be in the area.

D’Asti had no information that the man was approaching children. “My understanding he was driving slowly in the area,” he said.

“At the end of the day the police and the school are satisfied there is no immediate danger in relation to this situation.”
