The demolition of six derelict buildings will be discussed at tonight’s City Council meeting.

A report will propose demolishing the buildings at 165 Louis Ave., 304 Elliott St. W., 270 Alymer Ave., 930 Goyeau St. and 936 Goyeau St. If the property owners fail to comply with the orders to demolish, the Building Department will carry out the demolition and all associated costs will be added to property taxes.

The Building Department will also proceed with demolishing the derelict building at 2446 Cadillac St. after failing to receive any response to a demolition order sent to the owner.

The demolitions are part of the city’s blight mitigation strategy that puts vacant or derelict buildings on a list of properties to be demolished. The buildings being discussed tonight are all considered at risk for fire and vandalism.

Since February 2011, 25 buildings on the list have been demolished, three have been repaired, and 16 remain. The next blight strategy update before council will be in June.
