Windsor girls are getting ready to say yes to the dress.

The fourth annual New Beginnings “Say Yes to the Dress” event invites young women to browse a large selection of formal and graduation dresses on Saturday from 1-5 p.m.

“We have over 400 dresses to give away,” said New Beginnings executive director Mary Kay Morand. “There is no cost to the dresses at all, everything is absolutely free.”

Morand said corporate partners, retail stores and local volunteers donated new and gently used dresses. This year’s event is their biggest yet.

Morand said the event helps relieve the stress  girls suffer trying to find something affordable to wear to their Grade 8 graduation or high school prom.

“The event itself started out of a felt need in our community for young girls who didn’t have an opportunity to purchase their own dresses,” she said.

“Just to be able to come in and relax, we have a wide variety of sizes, of colours, of designs, and not having to look at prices or trying to find something affordable certainly does relieve a lot of tensions, especially for families.”

Since its inception four years ago, the event has helped nearly 400 girls find a dress to wear to their graduation or other formal occasion.

New Beginnings is a youth rehabilitation centre, which focuses on counselling, support and supervision of youth who have had run-ins with the law.

The event will be held at the New Beginnings building at 1050 Highland Ave.
