A Tecumseh man is dead after a freight train slammed into his SUV Thursday morning and dragged it half a kilometre.
Essex County OPP responded around 11 a.m. to the train crossing on Wallace Line, between County Road 22 and County Road 42 in Lakeshore.
Police said the CP Rail freight train, headed east, collided with a northbound Ford Explorer. The 26-year-old driver of the Explorer, who was alone in the vehicle, was later pronounced dead at Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital.
Police haven’t released his name.
Wallace Line remains closed between County Road 22 and County Road 42 while the OPP and CP police investigate. They will likely be on scene until about 4 p.m.
