Windsor police have arrested dangerous fugitives Michael Wilfred Allard and Stephanie Robinson.
The pair was arrested together without incident in the 500 block of Church Street at about 3:15 p.m., police said.
“Uniform officers were in the area and spotted both of them and took them into custody,” said Windsor police Acting Staff Sgt. Chris Dupuis.
Police were searching for the duo after Allard allegedly robbed and beat a man so badly he required emergency brain surgery earlier this week. Robinson was his alleged getaway driver.
Police say the victim, a 52-year-old man, was attacked by Allard near Howard Avenue and Erie Street around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
After the vicious attack, Allard and Robinson allegedly fled the scene in a car that was stolen two days earlier.
As of Friday, police said the assault victim was in stable condition following the brain surgery, but remained in the ICU.
Dupuis said both are facing charges of aggravated assault, robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.
Wednesday’s assault followed Allard’s recent release from jail for his part in another violent attack.
Police say Allard has an extensive criminal record with a history of violence, including a conviction for beating a gay man while hurling anti-homosexual slurs at him. Following that attack in August 2011, he was sentenced to another 22 months behind bars, after 14 months spent in pretrial custody.
In 2002, Allard also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to stop for an accident and stealing his mother’s car. He was arrested after hitting a pedestrian and trying to run over an Amherstburg police officer, then leading LaSalle police on a high-speed chase that ended with a crash.
Dupuis said Allard and Robinson will be arraigned Sunday and remain in custody as police continue the investigation.
