Windsor police arrested a man late Tuesday after watching him break into a vehicle.
At 11:55 p.m. officers on routine patrol were at University Avenue West and Victoria Avenue, waiting for the traffic signal to turn green.
They heard the sound of breaking glass coming from a nearby parking lot. The officers went to check it out and saw a man leaning into a Dodge van. Police said he pulled a backpack out of the broken window then took off on a bicycle.
The officers stopped him at Park Street and Bruce Avenue and arrested him. Police also found property on him that was stolen from another vehicle.
John Redmile, 46, of Windsor, is charged with mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000 and two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.
