Windsor police have completed their investigation of a suspicious package at the Ambassador Bridge and have reopened the international crossing.
Police received the call shortly before 4 p.m. after a package was discovered at the duty free shop near the entrance to the bridge. Police remained on the scene after 6 p.m. They closed the bridge for about 20 minutes to facilitate removal of the package, using a robot.
By 6:30, said Staff Sgt. Christine Bissonnette, the package had been removed. She said it was not considered dangerous and posed no threat to the public. “Someone just left something behind,” she said.
Meanwhile, traffic was detoured to College Avenue during the closure. She said the traffic appeared to be moving smoothly but added drivers could expect slow going for awhile.
