Detectives are investigating a late-night break-in that has left a Windsor man without his prosthetic leg and prescription drugs.

Windsor police responded to a call at an apartment building at 2840 Tecumseh Rd. W. at around 10 p.m. Sunday about a break and enter.

The victim told police he was woken by his wife, who thought she heard someone walking around their apartment, at 9:45 p.m.

The victim said he had also heard noise in the apartment about 30 minutes prior, but dismissed it and fell back asleep.

As he was getting out of bed to investigate the noise, the victim said he realized his prosthetic leg was gone.

Police said he then crawled to the front door of the home and saw a man running down the building’s hallway and out the door.

Police said the victim described the suspect as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, wearing a dark blue jacket.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry and have no yet determined how the alleged thief got into the apartment.

The estimated worth of the stolen leg is $5,000, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Crime Stoppers or the Windsor police’s detective office at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830.
