A fight involving a weapon left one man with injuries and landed another in police custody on Friday night.
The altercation happened around 6:30 p.m. in front of a multi-unit residential building at 1091 Wyandotte St. W.
According to a witness, an older man struck a man in his 30s repeatedly in the face with a crowbar.
But other witnesses said the older man only attacked because the younger man had tried to break into his unit inside the building.
The younger man — with blood streaming down his face — managed to walk several blocks west to the Shoppers Drug Mart at 1675 Wyandotte St. W., where someone called 911.
Police described the man’s wounds as non-life threatening. The injuries included lacerations to his face and head, plus a possible puncture wound to his abdomen.
The other man was arrested at the scene in front of the apartment building. Charges are pending.
A female resident of the building — who identified herself as “Amber” — said the injured man is an acquaintance of a friend of her boyfriend, and she had kicked him out of her unit just before the fight.
“I am not his friend. I do not like him, I do not like what he does, I don’t want him anywhere around my house,” she said.
She said the son of the older man was also involved in the altercation.
Hours after the fight, another man — who would not identify himself — could be seen hosing down the sidewalk in front of the building.
“There was all this blood and no one was doing anything about it,” the man explained. “I got sick of seeing it.”
