A Windsor mother is frustrated after her car was badly rear-ended by someone who drove away on Wednesday night.
“I want somebody to be responsible for what happened to me, and what happened to my child,” said Jamilla Khalaf, 26. “Before it happens to someone else.”
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. where Howard Avenue meets Ottawa Street.
Khalaf was headed south on Howard Avenue in her white Jeep Cherokee. Also in the vehicle was her nine-year-old daughter.
Khalaf said they stopped at the intersection with Ottawa Street. Just as the light turned green and they were about to proceed, they were struck from behind.
“It was so loud,” Khalaf said. “It took a few seconds for me to understand what had happened.”
The culprit was a later model white pick-up truck with two white female occupants, according to Khalaf.
Khalaf said it looked like the person in the truck’s passenger seat was “freaking out.” Then the truck did a U-turn and took off.
The collision left Khalaf with an injured left knee. She said her daughter was shaken by the incident.
The amount of damage to the Jeep has yet to be ascertained, but Khalaf said it’s considerable and the vehicle could be beyond salvaging.
She said the pick-up truck likely has dramatic front-end damage. She’s not sure of its make, model or plates.
Khalaf said police have told her it’s going to be difficult to find the suspect vehicle and its driver.
She’s now asking anyone with information about the truck or the collision to call her at 519-791-4042.
“Listen, if it was me, and I hit somebody, and I got nervous, and I drove away … I would go turn myself in,” she said. “Because I know karma’s going to get me.”
