A two-week closure of a section of Malden Road is slated for mid August.

Cindy Prince, communications manager for Parkway Infrastructure Constructors, said the temporary closure, between Spring Garden Road and Continental Avenue, begins Aug. 6 at 12 p.m. through Aug. 19 at 6 a.m., although weather conditions could affect those dates.

“The reason for the closure is for utility work,” Prince said. “And it’s pretty comprehensive utility work this time. It’s the underground duct banks for electrical, sanitary sewer and water main.”

The underground utility work is tied to the construction of the Herb Gray Parkway.

“It is one of the benefits of the parkway project,” Prince said. “The utilities are being upgraded in all the municipalities there. Residents are putting up with some construction inconveniences for sure but in exchange for that they’re getting all new sewers and water mains, hydro service and so on.”

Prince said any roadways affected by the construction will also be addressed by the end of the project.

“At the end of the day … everything has to be put back to the condition it was prior to the projects starting. Any road that’s been messed up will be returned to its previous condition.”

There will be no official detours during the closure.
