A concerned citizen’s call to police early Wednesday led to the arrest of a speeding drunk driver.
Chatham-Kent OPP said the driver had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The call came in around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday. The caller said there was a car moving erratically in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Merlin Town Line.
Police stopped a 2012 Audi after clocking it at 133 km/h. When the officer approached the car, the driver appeared to be drunk.
Police took him back to headquarters for an alcohol test, and learned he had nearly double the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Gregory Heckel, 55, of Fort Erie, is charged with impaired operation of motor vehicle, exceed 80 milligrams blood alcohol content and speeding.
