Authorities are mystified about a speedboat that apparently dropped off people on the Windsor side of the Detroit River in the dead of night.
U.S. Coast Guard informed Windsor police around 4:20 a.m. Monday that a 16-foot powerboat had been sighted docking on the Canadian shoreline at the 6000 block of Riverside Drive East.
According to the coast guard, individuals with flashlights were seen leaving the vessel.
Then, the boat sped away into the darkness.
Windsor police sent officers to the area to look for the watercraft, or anybody on foot.
“We found nothing,” police spokesman Sgt. Matt D’Asti said Monday afternoon. “We really don’t know what it is, at this point.”
The U.S. Coast Guard has told Windsor police that they will continue to search for the boat. Information has been forwarded to the Windsor police marine unit.
D’Asti said the boat’s activity is “suspicious.
“It definitely warrants investigation…. But for us to speculate on exactly what was going on — we really don’t know,” he said.
