Massive manhunt for escaped prisoner in downtown Detroit

Motorists could experience delays on the Detroit side of the Windsor-Detroit border as a massive manhunt takes place in downtown Detroit for a prisoner who stabbed a deputy and escaped from the courthouse.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that police have descended upon a neighbourhood near East Congress and East Grand Boulevard seeking Derreck White, 25, who escaped from the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, prompting a lockdown at the courthouse.

Police told The Free Press that White stabbed a deputy with a sharp object and walked out of the courthouse wearing the deputy’s uniform about 8:30 a.m. He carjacked a vehicle and subsequently dumped it near Concord and Lafayette.
