A second strike may be averted for hundreds of University of Windsor workers after tentative agreements were reached Saturday morning.
Tentative deals between the university and Unifor Locals 2458 and 195 were reached at about 9 a.m. after the bargaining units spent 18 hours straight in negotiations, said Unifor Local 2458 president Bruce Dickie.
Besides being very tired Saturday morning, Dickie said he’s pleased with the agreements that have been reached.
“It was difficult trying to get there, but working around the clock, we were able to come up with an agreement that we believe our members will accept,” said Dickie.
Dickie’s local represents 362 clerical staff, operating engineers and skilled trades.
Unifor Local 195 represents 26 campus community police and parking services employees.
Holly Ward, the university’s chief communications officer, said it is wonderful agreements have been reached.
“I can’t get into a lot of the details until the deals are ratified, but this news is certainly being very well received across campus,” said Ward.
Details of the agreements will be released following the ratification votes, which will all be held Monday, said Dickie.
The university remains open and classes continue as scheduled.
