A man is dead after the pickup truck he was driving collided with a transport truck just west of Chatham Saturday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said the crash occurred on Queen’s Line between Bloomfield Road and Dillon Road at about 10 a.m.

The man driving the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, said Chatham-Kent police acting Staff Sgt. George Vieira. The pickup truck was engulfed in flames following the collision and is totalled as a result, said Vieira.

The man driving the transport truck is being treated for injuries he sustained in the collision, said Vieira. Police would not comment on the extent of his injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, said Vieira.

Names and ages are not yet being released by police, said Vieira.

Police would not say if charges are expected to be laid.

The public is asked to avoid the area as police continue to investigate.
