A 24-year-old is facing charges after he took a large dump truck for a joy ride and crashed it into hydro pole early Wednesday morning.
Windsor police said the man crashed into a hydro pole around 1:15 a.m. at Walker Road and Calderwood Avenue, knocking out power for residents in the area.
The Volvo A30D dump truck, which was stolen from the Windsor-Essex Parkway project site, then left the scene travelling north on Walker Road.
Police met the truck at Seneca Street where the suspect stopped and surrendered to police.
“Fortunately the truck stopped when police activated their emergency lighting,” said Windsor police Staff Sgt. Steve Bodri.
“The truck could have caused a lot of damage had it not stopped for police.”
More information is expected to be released later today.
