A 20-year-old Belle River man has been charged with impaired driving after he crashed his car into a hydro pole in Chatham early Saturday morning.
Police said the collision occurred at 2 a.m. at the intersection of Baldoon Road and McNaughton Avenue. A responding officer determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages and arrested him.
Police said the man was then transported to Chatham-Kent police headquarters where he provided breath samples that were more than two times the legal limit.
There was about $5,000 damage as a result of the collision, police said.
