Man the barricades, Windsorites — The Rose City briefly became a surreal political discussion point between Late Show host David Letterman and former U.S. president Jimmy Carter on Monday night.
After hearing Carter’s thoughts on Russia’s invasion of Crimea, Letterman wondered aloud what would happen if the United States of America decided it wanted a piece of its northern neighbour — specifically, Windsor, Ont.
“Just right across the river from Detroit, or something like that,” Letterman said.
“I’ve heard about it,” Carter said with a nod.
“If we went up there and we sent our tanks in, I mean, could we get away with that?” Letterman asked.
Ever the diplomat, the 39th President of the United States replied: “I doubt that the people in Windsor would approve.”
The response elicited a cackle from Letterman and his audience.
