Amherstburg’s budget meetings, slated to resume Thursday at 10 a.m. and continue Friday if needed, have been cancelled.
Deputy clerk Paula Parker said via email that council will reconvene its next budget session Tuesday at 10 a.m.
No reason for the rescheduling was given.
Amherstburg councillors told administration Wednesday to take another look at the preliminary budget, which includes a hefty 10.01 per cent tax increase, and cut back on operating expenses. All new capital expenditures could also be on the cutting block.
Councillors were in agreement the tax increase needs to be five per cent or less.
Councillors still have to decide whether to accept an offer of $12 million from energy distribution company Entegrus to purchase the town’s 14 per cent shares in Essex Power Corp. The $12 million could reduce the proposed 10 per cent tax increase to 6.94 per cent.
