A Windsor man is facing several charges after allegedly taking provincial police on a brief chase in a stolen transport truck.
Essex County OPP received a call on Sunday about the big rig, which was stolen from a company in Essex. Shortly after the owner reported the truck stolen, it was spotted on Manning Road.
Officers tracked down the truck and turned on their emergency lights. Instead of stopping, police said, the driver tried to flee. He turned onto North Rear Road in Lakeshore and headed east.
Const. Joe Meloche said the chase lasted a couple kilometres before the driver stopped. Meloche didn’t know if anything was in the truck when it was stolen.
Larry Vanbraeckel, 20, of Windsor, is charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, mischief under $5,000, breach of recognizance, theft of a motor vehicle and break and enter.
