A 27-year-old University of Windsor student from Belle River was charged with making an unsafe left turn Wednesday after a head-on collision.
The student was driving a 2007 black Nissan Versa west on College Avenue when he entered the intersection at Huron Church Road around 5: 40 p.m. intending to turn south. A silver Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a 22-year-old Windsor man was travelling east on College Avenue when the cars collided head-on. The Nissan driver said his air bags deployed and he wasn’t injured.
According to Staff Sgt. Steve Bodri, the Versa crossed into the path of the oncoming Cavalier when the driver tried to make a left turn and caused the accident. The Versa sustained $25,000 in damage, while the Cavalier sustained $10,000 in damage.
A three-year-old boy travelling in the Cavalier was treated and released from Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital after suffering minor injuries that were initially thought to be serious.
For at least an hour College Avenue in both directions was closed at Huron Church Road, while northbound traffic on Huron Church Road near the Ambassador Bridge was reduced to one lane and backed up to Northwood Street.
