A 37-year-old faces drinking-and-driving charges after a driver ran over a hydro pole early Saturday and attempted to flee the scene.
Windsor police said a witness saw a man staggering out of his 2003 Ford Escape at about 3:45 a.m. after slamming into a hydro pole in the 1200 block of Ottawa Street.
Police found a man in nearby Lanspeary Park and arrested him for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
The driver also faces an additional charge of refusing to take a breathalyzer while at police headquarters.
The crash caused about $8,000 in damage to the SUV and $2,500 to the pole.
Police said the man’s car has been impounded for seven days and his licence is suspended for 90 days.
