Two elderly women are in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a pickup truck in downtown Harrow Thursday.
The two pedestrians were using the crosswalk at McAfee Street around 3:15 p.m. when a Dodge Ram truck that was westbound on King Street made a left-hand turn south and collided with the women.
Sgt. David Dibbley of Essex OPP said the truck was driven by an elderly man from Florida.
Witnesses said the two women — who are Harrow residents — had been shopping together downtown.
A witness who didn’t want to give her name said the driver of the truck would have had the sun directly in his eyes as he made the turn.
Witnesses said one of the victims was conscious at the scene. Both were taken to hospital.
OPP said the driver wasn’t hurt.
Accident reconstruction officers were called in to study the scene.
