For Margaret Figuary and her family, the turkey they receive from the annual Mikhail giveaway is more than just the main dish at their Christmas dinner.
That turkey, Figuary said, provides substance during a time when money is already short throughout the holiday season.
“One turkey will feed myself, my mother and father for at least five days,” Firguary said, who arrived at Ouellette Avenue around 3 a.m. to secure the first spot in line.
“This means so much and the Mikhails deserve a humungous thank you because right now things are very tight.”
By 7 a.m., about 25 people stretched along Ouellette Avenue.
The Mikhail Holdings annual turkey giveaway starts at 10:30 a.m. at 301 Ouellette Ave. and provides 500 turkeys, potatoes and canned vegetables for local families in need.
The annual giveaway is put on with the help of Freshco Food Stores, the Windsor Police Association and Bonduelle North America.
The Mikhail family requests that everyone who needs a package bring identification – only one meal package per family will be provided.
More to come.
