An Essex County heavy construction contractor has been fined $60,000 under the province’s Occupational Health and Safety Act after a worker fell at an Amherstburg work site two years ago.
Facca Incorporated pleaded guilty in Provincial Offences Court, it was announced Thursday, to failing to ensure that form work was properly braced to prevent movement and ensure stability after one of its employees climbed to the top of form work being hoisted away from a concrete wall and fell, injuring himself.
The worker was attached to a harness on May 30, 2011, but the form work detached from the wall and he fell backwards, with the form work crashing down on top of him.
The fine was imposed by Justice of the Peace Michael Hurst.
The court also imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge, credited to a special provincial government fund to assist victims of crime.
