Union negotiators representing Windsor’s airport workers are being praised by the employer for agreeing to a tentative new four-year labour contract.
“It’s a fair and reasonably balanced deal,” said Mayor Eddie Francis, who is also acting-CEO for Your Quick Gateway, the city-owned Windsor International Airport. “The (union) members understood the local, economic challenges,” he added.
A date for a ratification vote had not yet been set Thursday. About 20 employees (14 of them full-time) are represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada and have been without a contract since June 30, 2012.
The YQG board must still approve the agreement as well, said Francis, who is also airport board chairman.
The two sides met about a dozen times over the past year, but the final push came this week, with negotiations on Tuesday, Wednesday and continuing into Thursday morning, with the final sign-off shortly after 9 a.m., according to Francis.
The membership of Windsor airport workers in PSAC predates the federal government transferring airport ownership to the municipality in the late-1990s.
