Lakeshore Raceway Group, which is trying to bring harness racing to Leamington, is holding a fundraising dinner Thursday at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 594 hall.
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain, a member of the organization, said the funds will be used to help bring harness racing back to Southwestern Ontario.
Bain said that an engineering inspection of the grandstand at Leamington Fairgrounds has been completed and a survey of the property is being conducted.
“Once all that is completed, we’re hoping to get the go-ahead from the Ontario Racing Commission,” said Bain.
The chicken dinner fundraiser costs $20 and runs from 5 to 10 p.m. at the hall at 5030 Howard Ave. in Tecumseh. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 519-726-5433 or 519-978-0986.
