An alleged drunk driver has lost his golf cart for seven days after police caught him driving it down the road while clutching a beer in his hand.
A Chatham-Kent police officer on patrol in Bothwell spotted the man around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday. Police said the man was driving a golf cart down Elm Street while holding a beer. He also had a cooler on the back of the cart.
When the officer went to pull him over, police said, the man tossed the beer bottle on the ground. The officer arrested the man and took him to police headquarters for breath tests.
Lawrence McMaster, 54, of Elm Street in Bothwell, is charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit. He was released from custody until his next court date, but police impounded the golf cart for seven days.
