LiUNA — the Labourers’ International Union of North America — has donated thousands of dollars to Windsor cancer care in honour of the cross-country fundraising journey of three local cyclists.

The D’Agnillo brothers — Michele, 17, and Christian, 15 — are cycling thousands of kilometres this summer with their uncle Fred Brefka to generate awareness and funding for the Windsor and Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation.

The family’s from Windsor, but they started their trip in Vancouver on July 4.

Since then, the trio has averaged 150 kilometres of pedaling a day, and have completed about one third of their planned route across Canada.

LiUNA locals throughout the country have been contributing to the cause.

On Friday, Local 607 — which is based in Thunder Bay — made a donation of $2,500.

All told, LiUNA locals have donated $24,500 to the foundation so far.

The cyclists have another 2,000 kilometres to go on their journey. The current total raised from all sources is just over $65,000..

Follow the D’Agnillos’ progress via the Pedaling For a Purpose section on the foundation’s website, www.windsorcancerfoundation.org.
