Ontario Provincial Police took a 28-year-old Blenheim man into custody after a high-speed chase that ended in a collision in Leamington Tuesday morning.
Police said an OPP officer tried to pull over a vehicle at Oak and Erie Streets at about 11:30 a.m. Instead of stopping, the driver of the vehicle fled north on Erie Street into downtown Leamington.
Police terminated the chase. The vehicle continued out of the town and into a rural area where it struck a southbound vehicle at County Roads 31 and 18.
The fleeing vehicle continued west on County Road 18 until the driver lost control and the vehicle left the road. The driver exited the vehicle and continued to flee on foot until he was apprehended by officers, police said.
Paramedics took the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision to hospital with minor injuries. Medical personnel also treated the suspect for minor injuries in hospital, police said.
The suspect is facing charges of dangerous driving, fleeing from police, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and six counts of driving while disqualified. Police did not release the man’s name.
Police are looking for the driver of a white Ford pickup who was at the scene where the suspect vehicle came to a stop. They asked anyone with information to contact them at 519-326-1544 or 1-888-310-1122.
