Kingsville for the first time will begin to offer marriage ceremonies starting next month.
“We have never provided the service until now,” said Ruth Orton-Pert, the town’s director of corporate services. “Anyone who wants to be married in a civil ceremony can come to our town to have it done and we will organize the timing.”
She has appointed three people who have been empowered to officially carry out marriage ceremonies for the town.
“I just completed the training with them,” Orton-Pert said. “We will begin offering the service as of Sept. 9.”
Those seeking to be married in Kingsville can arrange to do so in council chambers or pick a location of their own.
The cost will be $250, plus mileage during business hours or $350, plus mileage outside of business hours.
Council’s recent decision to offer marriage ceremonies was not done to generate revenues for the municipality, but instead out of hopes for spin-off revenues through wedding receptions or other activities at several local business venues, Orton-Pert said.
“We hope that it will,” she said. “Kingsville has many beautiful locations for services.”
