Windsor police thanked motorists who blocked off a vehicle that was behaving erratically Saturday night, leading to the arrest of an impaired driver.
Police said they responded to a call for an impaired driver near Riverside Drive and Jefferson Boulevard at about 9:20 p.m. They received a second call informing them that the vehicle, a black Jeep, had moved to Wyandotte Street East turning south onto Banwell Road, where it was swerving into oncoming lanes with no lights on.
When officers arrived at Tecumseh Road and Banwell Road, they found the Jeep surrounded by cars, preventing it from travelling farther.
Officers approached the driver, who stared blankly ahead. Eventually he lowered his window and police arrested him for impaired driving, bringing him to police headquarters for a breathalyzer test.
The tests showed the man was almost three times over the legal limit, police said. Police impounded the man’s car for seven days and suspended his licence for 90 days.
