Police charged a driver with running a red light after a collision that sent a vehicle slamming into a concrete flower planter downtown Saturday night, trapping a woman inside.
Police responded to the call at Wyandotte Street West and Pelissier Street at 10:20 p.m. When they arrived, firefighters and paramedics were extricating a 20-year-old Windsor woman from the 2004 Ford Mustang that had struck the planter.
A 2012 Chrysler 300 with a heavily damaged front end was in the centre of the intersection. The 24-year-old driver of that car and his female passenger were not injured.
According to the driver of the Mustang and a witness, the Chrysler 300 was travelling westbound on Wyandotte Street West and ran a red light, striking the Mustang as it turned north onto Pelissier Street.
The driver of the Mustang complained of a sore neck, but was not seriously injured. Both vehicles sustained about $7,500 in damage and police estimated damage to the planter at $2,500.
Police charged the driver of the Chrysler 300 with failing to stop at a red light. They also charged the driver of the Mustang with driving without insurance.
