It’s about to get simpler and faster for elderly drivers to renew their licences, the Ontario government announced Tuesday.
Currently, drivers over the age of 80 have to pass a written text every two years if they want to renew their licences. Starting in April, the province plans to eliminate the written test.
Instead, elderly drivers will have to pass a vision test, a review of their driving records, a classroom education session and two short classroom exercises.
According to a news release from the province, “enhancements to the senior driver’s licence renewal program are supported by the latest scientific research and are part of the Ontario government’s plan to make it easier for people to access important government services, when and where they need them.”
The province doesn’t plan to change the $32 biannual renewal fee, the release said.
